I thought that this book would be helpful, as I am new to gardening in the Southwest. However, the organizational style is not intuitive at all, and it’s seldom worth the effort for me to try to locate the information I need. Rather than organizing tasks by month, they’re organized by plant type and then month. So if I want to know what I need to do for my garden in June, I have to look in at least 5 different sections. While there’s useful information, there are better books out there. Don’t waste your money.

I like Month-by-Moth Gardening in the Desert Southwest. It helped me make better decisions about when to plant what in my desert garden. I ordered this book after checking it out of the library. Now I’m building a garden calendar that fits “my” back yard.
The heat has finally dipped below 100 degrees. So, enough typing here. I’ve got lettuce, broccoli, fennel, cilantro, carrots and beets to plant.

I was very very pleased when I bought this book used. It’s practically brand new but a fraction of the new price. Very happy with the shipping time and the sender’s information.

This book has been indispensible for a novice gardener in the desert southwest. Great tips, planting suggestions, advice on fruit trees, shrubs, veggies, grasses, annuals – you name it! A must for anyone learning how to grow things in the southwest’s challenging extremes.
