@1nfidelcrusader
I have a multi headed huge sunflower with a single large flower at the top and intensely yellow smaller flowers all the way down the stem. Does anyone know what that is?
I also have a lot of autumn sunflowers in a variety of colors. So beautiful. I can’t wait to plant next year. Another question, can you plant in the middle of winter, as long as you know there probably won’t be another frost? Assuming of course that I can start the seedlings indoors.

@BlasphemousPothead Yes, most seeds, need to mature. Mature to the end of their growth cycle. I’m no ‘master gardener’. just a hack. But I’ve had some lemons that I’ve cut open have seeds sprouting? Generally, mature your seeds to whenthey start to dry out on the plant. Cut them off. Air dry them until next season planting. I let most of my stuff go to seed this year. OMG. I should sell some. 100 per pack. I’ve got at least 10k of each type

@1nfidelcrusader
Do the seeds have to be very dry to be able to grow? Or are they “valid” if you will, as soon as they’re formed by the wetter living plant?

Brissa 47 asks – “when do you get the sunflower seeds from the sunflower, and how do you do it?” All flowering plants regenerat through seeds. The sunflower is the consumate example. You have to wait until its life cycle is over. Like most plants, the seed pod starts to dry out. Wait until the sunflower seeds are like a loose tooth. Cut the head off and place into a paper bag and let it dry out. On Mammoth heads. Slash the crap out the the back xcrossing to let it dry. or risk mold.

@Brissa47 the sunflower will dry out and you get the flower. Let the flower to dry also and when its dry tap it so the seeds will fall. Dry also the seeds if they are wet. Do not dry the flower and seeds under the sun. just let is sit indoors.

Nope, they don’t close at night, they stay open all the time till the flower looses its petals and goes to seed.
